The National Telethon is the NCF’S biggest fund raising event. The first telethon was held in 2003 and this year saw the 11th edition of the activity. The Telethon has become a National Event on the Saint Lucian calendar and we recognize the tremendous effort and contribution that donor organizations continue to make to its growth. From $103,000.00 raised at the first telethon the NCF set a target of $250,000.00 for the 2014 telethon.
The telethon gives the corporate sector as well as individuals the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Foundation. The funds raised at the event enables the Foundation to continuously meet its main objectives which is to receive and disburse philanthropic funds(which is mainly derived from the Telethon) for the benefit of target groups and individuals within the society and facilitate the empowerment of groups and individuals living in challenging circumstances.
We at the NCF pride ourselves on making optimum use of the donations we receive and every dollar raised during the event will have direct impact on the critical assistance programs provided to families and persons in need such programs include: Youth-at-risk, the elderly, retired persons, education of disadvantaged children (Scholarship Programme), health care for disadvantaged persons, homeless/disadvantaged persons, persons with disabilities and the school and Community Chess Programs.
The Telethon provides an atmosphere for the entire family. This year’s (2014) Telethon was a fun filled day which commenced from the morning with activities leading through the evening, with a little bit of fun for every age group. Activities included a chef cook off where savory mouth watering dishes were prepared right in front of the audience, our famous kids’ fun house, with bouncing castles, face painting, cartoon characters, lucky dips and tambolars . The Health Corner manned by the Bureau of Health, disseminated information on diabetes, cancer, hypertension and AIDs among others. A masseuse was also on hand to provide massages if needed. The day ended with a Soca show featuring local and foreign artistes.
Many groups and organizations over the years have continuously pledged their unwavering support to the Foundation to ensure the success of The Annual National Telethon. Artistes both local and foreign continue to donate their time and talent while hundreds of volunteers give of their time to guarantee a successful hosting of each year’s Telethon.
The Telethon is traditionally held in May but in 2014 the activity was scheduled for 1st August, however due to inclement weather the event was rescheduled for 5th October .The NCF thanks all donors corporate and individual who pledged at the telethon and reminds the companies and individuals who have not contributed that the NCF accepts donations not only during the Telethon but throughout the year.
